'Spread the word' Campaign
Chairman's Letter to Members - Downing Street e-Petition - April 2008
Dear CABP Member:
Last June, I asked you to support an e-Petition on frozen pensions on the Downing Street website and in October I followed up and asked you to get your friends and relatives involved around the world. You certainly came up trumps and were instrumental in taking the signatures from 1,800 in June to more than 7,100 by the time the petition closed in November. Those of you who did sign are very aware that the response we received from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) was far from what we were looking for and really was an insult to frozen pensioners everywhere. I wrote to the PM as a result and we considered asking all of you who signed to do the same. However, we decided that before doing that we should try another e-petition to see what kind of response we might get second time around. Well, there are currently two more e-petitions on this subject still open and one of them was posted by a Canadian couple who are members of CABP. Links to both are provided below followed by instructions on how to sign-up. To sign up once you access the site, fill in the first three boxes with your name and your email address twice. NOTE that two people cannot sign up from the same email address so where you are a couple, make sure you put both your names (e.g.: John & Jane Doe) in the "name" box. Put your full address in the address box and leave the UK postcode box blank. Click on the SELECT drop-down menu and select EXPATRIATE, unless one of the alternative options applies to you. Click on SIGN. You will then see a message containing the following information: "thank you. We have sent you an email. To add your signature to the petition, you need to click the link in this email. If you don't receive the email and you use web-based email or have "junk mail" filters, please check your bulk/spam mail folders, in case the message went there by mistake." Adding your signature is very easy and it takes but a few minutes. Just click on the links. Please don't give the government the satisfaction to be able to say, "Well, we set up the Downing Street e-petition site as a means for people to express their opinions and nobody could be bothered!" To all of you, please encourage your British friends or relatives to sign, wherever they may live in the world. If they (or for that matter, you) need convincing to sign, then ask them to access this website and read our 4 page Justice Special which, will educate them on the myths used by the UK government in its arguments as to why it cannot end pension freezing. My thanks for your participation and your continued support of CABP.
Sincerely
Tony Bockman Chairman, Canadian Alliance of British Pensioners |
